Warmer temperatures and infrequent rain can make gardening more\nchallenging this time of year. That being said, maintaining or even growing new\nplants during the summer months can pay off. Here are some of our top summer\ngardening tips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Heat Tolerant Vegetable Gardens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Who doesn\u2019t love a fresh selection of vegetables from the\ngarden? There are <a href=\"https:\/\/gardeninminutes.com\/summer-gardening-tips-growing-in-heat\/\">several\nvegetables<\/a> that actually love the summer heat, including lima beans,\nwatermelon, hot peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes. In fact, these vegetables\nthrive in warmer temperatures! The key is to make sure they receive enough\nwater and are covered from direct sunlight. You can use something simple like an\nold sheet or burlap for cover. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prune Away Dead Debris<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of flowers and plants that love the sun,\nbut they need special care. Be sure to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realsimple.com\/home-organizing\/gardening\/outdoor\/summer-gardening-tips\">prune\naway<\/a> diseased, damaged, or dead debris from your plants frequently. This ensures\nthey receive the sunlight and airflow necessary to survive and thrive. Pruning\nalso helps keep insects away from the healthy part of the plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stay on Top of Weeding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the summer months are challenging when it\ncomes to weed growth. <a href=\"https:\/\/savvygardening.com\/summer-loving-savvy-tips-to-keep-your-gardens-in-top-shape\/\">Weeds\ncan grow<\/a> very quickly and can easily take over flowerbeds and gardens.\nAdding mulch at the start of the summer is a good way to help keep weeds at\nbay. A simple rule of thumb is that plants should have two\nfinger widths between them. This allows the root structure to grow underground\nand provides each plant with the sunlight they need to thrive. If you planted\nseasonal flowers during the spring, it is time to change those out so that the\ndead material does not impact the growth of other plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Water. Depending on the type of plant, you could be looking at between 1-3\ninches of water every other day if there isn\u2019t any rain in the forecast.
