Houseplants are a great addition to any home. They are bright and purify the air, but can just be so hard to take care of sometimes! If you are looking for a variety of plants for your home without the hassle, consider low maintenance succulents. Succulents have thick, fleshy leaves that retain water in the driest climates and soil conditions. They even have health benefits! We have an easy, creative way for you to maintain your succulents with a do-it-yourself terrarium.

Materials:
• Variety of succulents
• Glass container with wide opening
• Gravel or small rocks
• Cactus potting soil
• Sand
• Fertilizer
• Spoon
• Spray bottle

Instructions:
Step One: Pick out succulents that you would like to use in your terrarium. You can find succulents in your local home improvement stores or garden centers.
Step Two: Select a glass container. Try to choose a container with a wide opening that isn’t too deep for plant placement and prevention of moisture build up.
Step Three: Place a two-inch layer of gravel on the bottom of your container followed by a layer of sand. This will ensure proper drainage.
Step Four: Spread a half-inch layer of cactus mix soil. This is a fast-draining soil that retains little moisture. Use a spray bottle to mist the soil lightly with water.
Step Five: Using a spoon, dig small holes for the plants. After removing the plans from the pots, place their roots in the soil.
Step Six: Add another thin layer of sand followed by a thin layer of gravel. And voilà!

Succulents are very low maintenance and only require two things. Place the terrarium in indirect light and mist with a spray bottle about once a week. When misting, make sure that the soil is slightly damp but not soaking.

We believe it’s how you live that matters and want to help provide simple, inventive ideas for your home. A do-it-yourself succulent terrarium is a fun craft and a great gift idea. We hope this project gets your green thumb going!
